SOLD: This isn’t for everyone. It will only appeal to a very few. But if you’re someone who appreciates an unexpected repurpose, you may find this interesting. Remember the kid in the movie who said “I see dead people”? Well, I see product. And when I saw this non-working vintage Sansui speaker assembly, I knew immediately it had to have a second life as a vanity tray.
When you take the grill off the original Sansui SP-1200 speaker cabinet, you see only the front of the assembly and frankly, there’s nothing exciting. However, when you remove the speaker assembly from the cabinet, you realize it is something special. The profile is stunning! Completely unique with hints of Asian design. But of course, this assembly was made during the seventies when the term “Kabuki speakers” was coined.
Use this one-of-a-kind piece on a dresser, bathroom counter or bedside table. Each of the two squakers cradles a glass dish that is just the right size for your pocket change and watch; the two tweeter holes are each fitted with part of a turntable counter weight and speaker plug to hold rings and studs.
