SOLD: Yup, you’re right: this IS an authentic Henry Kloss Model One tabletop radio that has been acclaimed by the critics and used by stylists as a hip prop in a variety of design magazines. Sadly however, when I found this particular radio, I learned that the electronics had been tampered with to a point of no return. The radio that was once touted as a “Bose killer” was itself pronounced dead thanks to some wanna-be fix-it-person.
I believed this walnut/beige Model One was worthy of a new life so I have repurposed it as a secret stash box. Looking absolutely normal on the outside, you can remove the original back panel to reveal that I have gutted the electronics and upholstered the interior.
Use it to store old love letters, extra cash, jewelry, mementos or even… well, you get the picture. Leave it out so you can appreciate the modern cool and rest assured that only you will know what hides inside. And for the very secret stuff: you will see in the photo that there is a tube — the original speaker port — that can be accessed through a sliding door that I have attached to the bottom of the box. (You can also remove the tube if you need more room in the box.)
This piece has a beautiful walnut grain, is in very good condition and measures approximately 8 3/8″ wide by 4 1/2″ high by 5 1/4″ deep. The back panel is attached with magnets so it can be easily removed.
