SOLD: Don’t judge a book by its cover, and don’t be fooled into thinking you are getting a working vintage railroad lantern. Although this is an authentic Barber Electric Lantern — manufactured in the forties by Barber Electric Co. of Chicago, IL — I have repurposed it to hold your most secret stuff (like jewelry, cash, etc.) OR your favorite botanicals OR your fragrance sticks OR maybe even a couple of incense sticks. You decide how it works best for you.
Looking absolutely normal on the outside, you can give the lid a twist and easily open the lantern to reveal that I have removed the excess hardware and upholstered the interior to protect your treasures. Should you decide to use it, I am including a small glass vase that fits inside like a glove.
The lantern is in good vintage condition with just the right amount of wear marks and rust to verify a history. As seen in the photos, the manufacturer information is engraved on the lid and the original lightbulb is intact and in place. The handle and the lid move freely and as intended.
This is a wonderful piece of railroad history that has been given new life and a new function in today’s home or office. It measures approx. 4″ across at the base and 7″ high (without the handle) and 9.75″ (with the handle straight up).
